| Abstract: | [cat] El present article analitza el desenvolupament real del turisme arqueològic com a producte per complementar i diversificar l’oferta turística de les Balears. Es pretén aconseguir aquest objectiu en tres actes. En el primer acte, s’ofereix una síntesi de la genealogia del model turístic hegemònic de les Illes: el turisme de masses de sol i platja. Al segon acte, s’exploren algunes conseqüències negatives d’aquest model, s’estudien les debilitats que presenta enfront de l’aparició de noves tendències turístiques i se sintetitzen els esforços constants duit a terme per part de diversos agents per afrontar aquests punts foscos, mitjançant el desenvolupament de nous productes turístics. Finalment, al tercer acte s’ofereix una panoràmica global dels processos de conversió del patrimoni arqueològic en productes turístics arqueològics existents en l’actualitat. ; [eng] This paper aims to provide an analysis of the current state of the archaeological tourism in the Balearic Islands, whose development has been encouraged to complement and diversify the portfolio of activities available to tourists. This analysis comprises of three main acts, in the first a synthesis of the creation, and ongoing development of “sun and beach” mass tourism is provided. In the second act, we will explore some of the negative consequences of this hegemonic touristic model, and how there has been an expansion into the grey areas created by mass tourism due to the emergence of new trends in touristic products and the appearance of new agents. In the third and final act, we will examine how as a consequence of this development the archaeological heritage of the Balearic Islands has been transformed into archaeological touristic products, which in turn has had an impact on the practises and agents engaged with this heritage. Together the three acts of this paper aim to provide an overview of how, and why the archaeological heritage of the Balearic Islands is increasingly becoming the focus of touristic interest, in one of the most visited sun and beach destinations in the Mediterranean. |
