| Abstract: | [eng] Winter census of Wildfowl and Shorebirds in the Balearic Islands, Jannuary 2009. Results are given of the Wildfowl and Shorebirds winter census for the Balearics in 2009. In 2009 a total of 23,667 individuals belonging to 66 species were recorded. The results are compared with the average for the last 18 years: in the case of Majorca it demonstrates a notable increase for the Pelecaniformes, Ciconiformes, Phoenicopteriformes and Charadiformes, but a moderate reduction for diving ducks (Anseriformes) and Gruiformes. In Menorca a strong decrease of all the groups is detected except for the Gruiformes, where increases mainly relate to the numbers of common coot Fulica atra. A slight increase is recorded in the Pityuse Islands for the Pelecaniformes (great cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo) and Charadriformes, whilst flamingos Phoenicopterus roseus continue to decline. |
