Títol:     Hume versus Espinosa
Autor/es Montes Fuentes, M. José
Matèries en català: Filosofia
Matèries en anglès: Philosophy
Abstract:  [ENG] This article studies the relation between these two philosophers. First, it shows that Hume does not attack directly Spinoza's ideas, but rather the conception held by theologists concerning the simplicity and the immortality of the soul. Hume denies substances because he considers that a substance is an unknown substratum, in which al1 qualities inhiere, something simple, unchangeable and perfectly identical through time. However, it is pointed out that Spinoza's conception of substance is not exactly the same as Hume considers. Recent articles are commented which have been published on different aspects that these two philosophers have in common.
