A lo largo de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX la industrialización se va instaurando en Europa y se va fomentando una nueva doctrina política y económica, el «liberalismo», a raíz del que se fue consolidando el sistema económico que conocemos como «capitalismo». Este sistema económico hizo que la sociedad se dividiera en dos grandes grupos sociales, los burgueses, propietarios de la producción y por otro lado el proletariado, que trabajaba a cambio de un salario. Este último grupo estaba claramente desfavorecido respecto del otro y esta situación hizo que surgieran movimientos preocupados por los derechos de estos obreros. En la isla de Mallorca estos movimientos se dieron en el último tercio del siglo XIX. Para el movimiento obrero la instrucción del proletariado era básica para que tomaran conciencia de su situación y pudieran ir conociendo sus propios intereses y derechos. En este artículo queremos mostrar cuáles fueron las primeras acciones llevadas a cabo por el movimiento obrero encaminadas a conseguir crear un hombre nuevo y diferente del Estado, la sociedad burguesa y la iglesia sobretodo en la isla de Mallorca. ; Throughout the second half of the 18th and early 19th centuries, industrialization was established all over Europe and a new economic and social doctrine, liberalism, was developed; subsequently, this consolidated the new economic system that we today call capitalism. This system caused society to be divided into two large social groups: The bourgeoisie who were production owners and the proletariat who worked for a wage. The latter group was clearly disadvantaged with respect to the former, which led to the emergence of social movements concerned with workers’ rights. In the island of Mallorca this movement occurred during the last third of the 19th century. For the labour movement, schooling the proletariat was essential so that they could become aware of their situation and learn about their own interests and rights. In this article we aim to study and present the first actions taken by the labour movement seeking to build a new man different from the one created by the State, bourgeois society and the Church, above all in Mallorca. |
