| Abstract: | [SPA] Los desarrollos tecnológicos de los últimos 30 años han revolucionado ostensiblemente la meteorología operativa. Los métodos de predicción han cambiado desde el empleo de técnicas manuales y empíricas a los modelos numéricos, cuyo desarrollo constituye el gran salto hacia adelante tanto en la predicción como en la investigación. Pero, estos avances también han traido consigo un notable retroceso en el aspecto humano de la relación entre el servicio meteorológico y el público, lo cual se hace particularmente evidente en la televisión donde, frecuentemente, se deja sentir la ausencia del meteorólogo experimentado y compenetrado con la naturaleza, quien, a pesar de la utilidad de la máquina, sigue siendo hoy día el elemento primordial en la predicción del tiempo. ; [ENG] The technological developments during the last 30 years have brought a revolution in the practice of meteorology. The forecasting methods have change from the use of manual and empirical techniques to numerical models. Their development constitutes the big leap forward both for forecasting and for research. However, on the other hand, this change has also brought the weakening of the human contact between the meteorological services and the public. This is particularly evident in television, where quite often the presence of the experienced forecaster is missing, when despite the usefulness of the machine, the human judgement is still the most important element in weather forecasting. |
