Menorca
On February 1, 1941, the first issue of Menorca, the organ of Falange Española and the JONS, founded by Fernando Jansà Guardiola, was printed. Popularly known as "es diari" by the people of Menorca. As specified in its header, it was the media outlet of Falange Española on the island of Menorca, and as stated in the first editorial, they considered themselves Falangists as the header and intellect dictate; Spaniards as the heart dictates; Catholics according to our deepest psychic stimulus; Menorcans, according to the pristine light that bathes our eyes […].
In the early years, its editorial line followed the authoritarian guidelines of Franco's government.
In 1955, there was a change in ownership, becoming the property of Jaime Cots. Some important changes occurred, such as the removal of the Falangist Yoke and the designation of the organ of Falange, becoming simply Menorca.
In 1977, Jaime Cots ceded 70% of the ownership to the Diocese of Menorca.
In 2013, through an integration agreement with the Última Hora newspaper, it became part of the Serra Group.
Thanks to an agreement between the University of the Balearic Islands and the Serra Group, the digitization of the issues from the first ten years of the newspaper, covering the years 1941 to 1951, has been carried out, which can be consulted for free in the Digital Library of the Balearic Islands.
