[SPA] Durante mucho tiempo se han buscado magnitudes que permanecieran invariantes, mientras las masas de aire experimentan transformaciones físicas. Ejemplos de dichos invariantes han sido la temperatura potencial, las temperaturas equivalentes potenciales o la temperatura del termómetro húmedo, que aquí se describen. Con el nuevo teorema del torbellino de Ertel y los trabajos de Rossby, se introduce hace medio siglo la vorticidad potencial. En este artículo se hace un repaso a su significado y se presentan algunas aplicaciones, principalmente de aspectos mediterráneos. ; [ENG] Searching of invariant magnitudes for air masses suffering physical evolutions has expended a lot of time during the history of the Meteorology. Examples of such invariant magnitudes have been the potential temperature, the equivalent-potential temperatures or the wet thermometer temperature, which are described in this paper. Fifty years ago, by means of the new Ertel’s vorticity theorem and the works by Rossby, the potential vorticity was introduced. In this paper a revision of its significance and some applications, mainly to Mediterranean aspects, are developed. |
